Finding Solutions in Unlikely Places: The Story of the 17 Camels and the Wise Mediator

Once upon a time, there was a wealthy man who lived in the middle of a vast desert. He had three sons and upon his death, left behind a will which stated that his property would be divided among his three sons in the following manner: the eldest son would receive half the property, the second son would receive a third, and the youngest son would receive a ninth. However, the property consisted of only 17 camels, and the sons were unable to divide the camels among themselves according to their father’s wishes. They tried and tried, but every attempt at division led to arguments and disputes.

One day, a wise mediator happened to pass through the desert and upon hearing about the sons’ dilemma, he offered to help them. The sons agreed, and the mediator asked for one camel as his fee. The sons agreed to the mediator’s fee, and the mediator set about solving their problem.

The mediator started by bringing his own camel and adding it to the 17 camels. He then divided the 18 camels as per the father’s will. The eldest son received half, which is nine camels, the second son received a third, which is six camels, and the youngest son received a ninth, which is two camels. After the division, the mediator took his own camel and went on his way, leaving the three sons with their respective shares of the property. All three sons were pleased with the outcome and thanked the wise mediator for his help.

This story teaches us the importance of seeking help from a neutral third party when we are unable to resolve disputes among ourselves. It also teaches us the value of compromise and finding creative solutions to seemingly impossible problems.

In our lives, we often encounter situations where we are unable to resolve disputes or find solutions to complex problems. It is in such situations that the intervention of a neutral third party can be extremely helpful. This story teaches us an important lesson about problem-solving. Sometimes, when we are faced with a difficult situation, it can be easy to get stuck in a cycle of revenge and retaliation. But often, the best solution is to find a creative way to solve the problem that benefits everyone involved. In this case, the mediator was able to see the situation from a different perspective and come up with a solution that no one had thought of before. By thinking outside the box and looking for a win-win solution, he was able to resolve the conflict and bring peace to all parties involved.

The story of the 17 camels and the mediator is a powerful reminder that there is often more than one way to solve a problem. When we are faced with a difficult situation, it is important to keep an open mind and be willing to consider unconventional solutions. By doing so, we can often find a way to resolve the conflict and create a positive outcome for everyone involved.
